RIO KOSTA is a Los Angeles duo built from two veteran session musicians, Mike Del Rio and Kosta Galanopoulos, who met at a festival soundcheck in 2019 and started writing together the following year. What they make is not really club music: it is 1970s psychedelia and instrumental funk with disco-leaning grooves, hypnotic repetition and soft vocal harmonies over the top, and reviewers reach for Khruangbin, MGMT and Jungle to describe it. Their debut album 'Unicorn' arrived in July 2025 on Verdigris Records and carried a sixteen-city North American run through early 2026. A raver scanning the calendar should set expectations accordingly - this is a groove band you watch, closer to a long jam session than a DJ set, and the dataset's 'latin-electronic / edm-mainstage' tags do not describe it well, though Del Rio's Puerto Rican and Galanopoulos's Greek heritage do feed the rhythms.
Popularity
How this is measured
An absolute, national (US) measure — not a ranking against the other artists on this site. We take the strongest of three open signals: ListenBrainz listens, English Wikipedia pageviews, and the number of Wikipedia language editions that have an article. The strongest one wins, so a signal we couldn't read never drags the result down. Bucket 1 means measured and small. Unrated never means small — it means we don't have the numbers.

What listeners say SAMPLE DATA
Real press exists but it stops short of a body of opinion. The Chicago Reader called their psychedelic pop escapist enough to transport you anywhere, the Daily Trojan covered a packed Roxy Theatre show as a mesmerising disco-funk set - though that piece runs as a photo essay rather than a critical review - and Music Connection listed them in a staff picks column. Three favourable notices across a debut-album touring cycle is coverage, not consensus, so nothing here should be read as a verdict on how the live show holds up.
