Pendulum formed in Perth in 2002 around Rob Swire, Gareth McGrillen and Paul 'El Hornet' Harding, and spent the back half of the 2000s doing something almost nobody else managed: making drum and bass that worked as rock music, with live guitars, live drums and Swire's sung vocals over 174bpm. 'Hold Your Colour' (2005), 'In Silico' (2008) and 'Immersion' (2010) are the records that defined that hybrid; then the band went on hiatus in 2012 while Swire and McGrillen ran Knife Party, returned in 2017, and finally released 'Inertia' in 2025 - their first studio album in fifteen years. Two things a PNW ticket-buyer should know. The name covers two very different shows: the full live band with Peredur ap Gwynedd on guitar and KJ Sawka on drums, and the Pendulum DJ set, which is Swire, McGrillen and Harding behind decks and is the format that plays club-sized rooms. The Portland and Seattle dates are at 45 East and Q Nightclub, both club rooms, so check the listing for which incarnation you are buying.
Popularity
We couldn't confidently match Pendulum to an artist in MusicBrainz, so we won't put a number on them — a score taken from the wrong artist is worse than none.
How this is measured
An absolute, national (US) measure — not a ranking against the other artists on this site. We take the strongest of three open signals: ListenBrainz listens, English Wikipedia pageviews, and the number of Wikipedia language editions that have an article. The strongest one wins, so a signal we couldn't read never drags the result down. Bucket 1 means measured and small. Unrated never means small — it means we don't have the numbers.

What listeners say
Pendulum are a well-reviewed live act with a genuinely large sample behind that judgement - LiveRate aggregates 42 critic concert reviews at 75 percent, and 77 percent across the last twelve months, which is the 'Inertia' touring cycle. The recurring praise is specific and consistent: relentless pacing with almost no breaks, real musicianship rather than a playback show, and a setlist that carries new material without losing 'Watercolour', 'Archangel' and 'Tarantula'. Reviewers of the 2025 return shows describe the new tracks landing as hard live as the classics. The honest caveat is that criticism is thin in the reachable sources rather than absent - the one complaint that surfaced was about a venue's sound rather than the band, and a 75 percent aggregate implies dissenting reviews that were not individually readable.
