French 79 is the solo electro-pop project of Simon Henner, founded in Marseille in 2014. Henner also plays guitar in Nasser and Kid Francescoli, and French 79 is where he pushes into dark, propulsive analog synth-pop — the 2016 debut Olympic broke the project, and Billboard singled out "Hometown" for its synth groove. Deutsche Grammophon later commissioned him for an original Erik Satie rework in its Fragments series, which is a fair signal of how far outside club-EDM the project sits. Expect a live electronic show with real hardware, not a DJ booth.
Popularity
How this is measured
An absolute, national (US) measure — not a ranking against the other artists on this site. We take the strongest of three open signals: ListenBrainz listens, English Wikipedia pageviews, and the number of Wikipedia language editions that have an article. The strongest one wins, so a signal we couldn't read never drags the result down. Bucket 1 means measured and small. Unrated never means small — it means we don't have the numbers.

What listeners say SAMPLE DATA
English-language coverage is sparse — an artist spotlight, a Billboard single premiere, an interview and a San Francisco live write-up. Nothing approaching a consensus of listener or show-goer opinion was found, so this is deliberately left unscored.
