Emancipator is Douglas Appling, an American producer and DJ based in Portland, Oregon, who self-released his debut album Soon It Will Be Cold Enough in 2006 while still in college. His downtempo and trip-hop records lean on live strings and folk-tinged sampling rather than drops, and he has built out the project well past a solo laptop act — founding the Loci Records label in 2012 and the touring Emancipator Ensemble in 2013. For PNW audiences he is effectively a hometown headliner, and the Ensemble format means the Portland and Seattle rooms get a live band rather than a DJ set.
Popularity
We couldn't confidently match Emancipator to an artist in MusicBrainz, so we won't put a number on them — a score taken from the wrong artist is worse than none.
How this is measured
An absolute, national (US) measure — not a ranking against the other artists on this site. We take the strongest of three open signals: ListenBrainz listens, English Wikipedia pageviews, and the number of Wikipedia language editions that have an article. The strongest one wins, so a signal we couldn't read never drags the result down. Bucket 1 means measured and small. Unrated never means small — it means we don't have the numbers.

What listeners say SAMPLE DATA
Available coverage is press, not crowd opinion. Album write-ups for Mountain Of Memory (2020) and Baralku (2017) were warm across EDM Identity, Live For Live Music and Billboard, and PNW music press treats him as a local act. No body of first-hand show-goer reaction was found, so this is not scored.
