Emancipator is the project of Doug Appling, a classically trained violinist turned downtempo/trip-hop producer based right here in Portland, Oregon. Since self-releasing his 2006 debut Soon It Will Be Cold Enough, he's built a devoted following on atmospheric, sample-laced instrumentals and an ongoing collaboration with violinist Ilya Goldberg (Emancipator Ensemble) that translates his studio sound into a full live band. A hometown-adjacent staple for PNW headphones-and-forest-festival crowds.
