David Starfire is a Los Angeles producer, multi-instrumentalist and DJ widely credited as a pioneer of global bass - Middle Eastern, South Asian and other non-Western instrumentation fused with glitch, dubstep and downtempo, a sound BBC Radio described as world-fusion production of the first rank. He is not a laptop-only act: he plays bass guitar and electronic hand drums during sets, and for festival shows expands into an eight-plus-piece band billed as the David Starfire Live Ensemble. Across roughly fifteen years he has released seven albums and thirteen EPs, worked with figures as far apart as Ram Dass and Afrika Bambaataa, and played Coachella, Burning Man, Outside Lands and Lightning in a Bottle. For PNW audiences he sits on the transformational-festival and world-bass side of the calendar rather than the club dubstep side.

Popularity

How this is measured

An absolute, national (US) measure — not a ranking against the other artists on this site. We take the strongest of three open signals: ListenBrainz listens, English Wikipedia pageviews, and the number of Wikipedia language editions that have an article. The strongest one wins, so a signal we couldn't read never drags the result down. Bucket 1 means measured and small. Unrated never means small — it means we don't have the numbers.

What listeners say SAMPLE DATA

⚠ Placeholder — not real reviews. Sample data — these are generated placeholders, not real listener reviews. A sentiment aggregator will replace this section with sourced listener feedback.

Not enough genuine audience opinion was reachable to publish a real sentiment reading. What exists is mostly recycled press positioning from his own materials plus a small number of festival write-ups: a Lightning in a Bottle review describes him commanding the Thunder stage and moving through sounds from many cultures with crunchy glitches and ambient tangents, and a separate festival review notes a thirteen-person collective fusing Indian raga and devotional chant with dubstep alongside FreQ Nasty. That is a promising but thin evidence base - two write-ups, no aggregated review consensus and no accessible fan-forum discussion - so this rating is placeholder rather than real.
